Emergency First Aid at Work training in Liverpool

Course overview

Our one-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course gives lower-risk workplaces a fully qualified emergency first aider in just 1 day. It is the right level of cover for offices, shops, gyms, salons and similar settings, and is practical, hands-on and built for complete beginners. No prior experience is needed.

Accredited by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) and meeting Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements, the course is delivered in Liverpool at Adelphi Hotel by experienced trainers. You will spend most of the day practising rather than listening — CPR on manikins, the recovery position, bandaging and realistic casualty scenarios — so you leave genuinely confident to act in an emergency, not just certified.

You can train with us on a public course in Liverpool from £95 per person, or we can deliver EFAW on site to your whole team at your premises. Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, your First Aid Needs Assessment decides the level of cover you need; if you are unsure whether EFAW or the three-day First Aid at Work course is right for you, call us on 0151 452 0043 and we will help you decide.

What the course covers

  • Manage an incident calmly and take charge of an emergency
  • Assess a casualty using the primary survey
  • Help an unresponsive casualty and place them in the recovery position
  • Perform CPR and use an AED (defibrillator) with confidence
  • Recognise and treat a casualty who is choking
  • Control severe bleeding and dress wounds
  • Recognise and treat shock
  • Respond to seizures and an unconscious casualty
  • Treat minor injuries such as cuts, grazes, splinters, burns and scalds
  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the workplace first aider

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for appointed workplace first aiders in lower-risk settings — offices, shops, gyms, salons and small premises — as well as small-business owners, managers, and anyone who needs a recognised emergency first aid qualification in a single day. It is fully compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements.

No prior experience or qualifications are required; the course is designed for beginners. If your workplace is a medium or higher-risk environment, the three-day First Aid at Work course is usually the more appropriate qualification, and we are happy to advise.

Assessment & certification

Assessment is practical and continuous throughout the day, with no formal written exam — your trainer guides you as you go and almost everyone passes. On successful completion you receive the nationally recognised, FAIB-accredited Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for 3 years, after which you retake the one-day course to requalify.

FAQs

Emergency First Aid at Work — frequently asked questions

Who is this course suitable for?

It is ideal for anyone designated as a first aider in a lower-risk workplace, as well as managers, business owners and individuals who want essential emergency first aid skills. No prior experience is needed — the course is designed for beginners.

Do I need a Level 3 (RQF) qualification — or is the FAIB-accredited course enough?

For most workplaces, the FAIB-accredited course is enough. Our Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification fully meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements and is the recognised standard for lower-risk workplaces. There's a common myth that you must hold an Ofqual-regulated 'Level 3' (RQF) certificate, but the HSE treats FAIB-accredited and regulated RQF first aid courses as equally valid — what matters is that training is delivered by a competent, accredited provider. Your workplace First Aid Needs Assessment (not the awarding route) decides the level of cover you need. If you specifically need the regulated RQF version, just ask and we'll arrange it.

Is one day really enough to become a workplace first aider?

For lower-risk workplaces such as offices, shops, gyms and salons, yes — EFAW is the recognised qualification for that level of risk. Medium and higher-risk workplaces usually need the three-day First Aid at Work course, and we can advise if you are unsure.

How long is the certificate valid?

The FAIB-accredited Emergency First Aid at Work certificate is valid for 3 years. After that you retake the one-day EFAW course to requalify and remain certified.

Will I have to take an exam?

There is no formal written exam. Assessment is practical and continuous throughout the day — your trainer assesses you through demonstrations and exercises as you go, and almost everyone passes.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable clothing suitable for practical activities, as you will kneel during CPR practice. All training materials and equipment are provided, so you only need a notepad and pen if you would like to take notes.

Can you train our team at our workplace?

Yes. We deliver EFAW on site at your premises in Liverpool for up to 12 people, from £495. It is a fast, cost-effective way to qualify a whole team in a single day with no travel. Call us on 0151 452 0043 for a group quote.

What time does the course run?

The course runs as a single full day, typically 9:00am to 4:00pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to register. Your exact venue and timings are confirmed in your booking email.

What happens if I can't attend my booked date?

Please let us know as soon as possible. With reasonable notice we can usually transfer your booking to a future course date — just get in touch on 0151 452 0043.

What if I have a medical condition, disability or learning-support need?

We aim to make our courses accessible to everyone. Please tell us in advance about any medical conditions, accessibility requirements or learning-support needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Can my employer be invoiced?

Yes. We can invoice employers for both individual and group bookings. Call us on 0151 452 0043 to arrange.
